I did not see one person thru’ the day without the Flanders poppy fastened onto their clothing . . . was at home but went out into the garden and quietly stood full of gratitude as the eleven o’clock bells sounded . . . we sadly have to remember so many new on the field now . . . so many laying down their lives . . .

  2. My family was heavily invested in the machinations of war. Nowdays soldiers pretty much know what they are getting into when they sign up. Back then it was a completely different ballgame. So many young men died and were overrun by the desire for power between countries. We need to remember them because those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it.
